Tasting Notes of Musk Stick and Chocolate
Laclo Village is one of the most exciting coffees we have shared from Timor-Leste. When the Orijem Timor wet mill was built in 2023, it gave producers in Timor-Leste the chance to experiment with new techniques. This lot was crafted through extended fermentation, with whole cherries sealed in anaerobic tanks for 110 hours, before slow drying on raised beds to capture depth and sweetness. The experiment paid off, earning first place and Best Coffee in Timor-Leste at the 2024 Festival Kafe Timor. In the cup, it’s complex and layered, with the sweet perfume of musk stick melting into silky milk chocolate. It’s vibrant and memorable, with a whole lot of clarity and balance. A clear marker of the quality emerging from Timor-Leste today, and a total delight to drink.
