Mikuba, Burundi
Best Suited for Espresso
Tasting Notes of Green Apple and Butterscotch
In Kirundi, Burundi’s local language, ‘Heza’ means ‘beautiful place’, which is fitting for this stunning coffee produced at Heza washing station by farmers from nearby Mikuba hill. High in the remote hills of Butanyerera Province, producers deliver their cherries to the washing station through winding dirt paths and a landscape dotted with acacia trees and wildflowers.
Roasted for espresso, this washed lot is vibrant, silky, and beautifully balanced. Cherries are carefully hand-sorted before undergoing fermentation, washing, and slow drying on raised beds to create a cup with clarity and sweetness in equal measure. Expect crisp green apple acidity layered over smooth butterscotch sweetness, with a clean finish that makes this one dangerously easy to keep drinking.
