Silvio Leite is a legend in specialty coffee. Based in Bahia, Brazil, he’s one of the world’s most respected cuppers, a pioneer of quality-focused coffee in Brazil, and a passionate advocate for producers.
We’ve had the privilege of working with Silvio since 2013, when he connected us with the Borré family at Fazenda Progresso and helped source our very first Brazilian coffee. Since then, he’s introduced us to some of the country’s most exceptional lots, both from his own farm and from other standout producers across Brazil.
We first met Silvio in person at MICE in 2018 and have since spent time with him both in Brazil and during his recent visit to Australia. Every interaction with Silvio leaves a mark. His depth of knowledge, attention to detail, and commitment to quality are clear in everything he does.
With over 30 years of experience in grading, tasting, and quality control, Silvio is a co-founder and head judge of the Cup of Excellence program. He also plays a key role in the Brazil Specialty Coffee Association. Through his company, Agricoffee, he works closely with producers, offering training, mentorship, and support to improve quality and build sustainable, transparent relationships.
In 2020, Silvio fulfilled a long-held dream: he purchased his own farm, Fazenda Cerca de Pedras São Benedito, just outside the town of Piatã. The coffees he produces here are exceptional. We’ve been lucky to purchase two of his microlots so far, and they’re seriously special.
Beyond quality, the farm also serves as a learning hub for smallholder producers in the region. Silvio’s vision is to create a model for sustainable specialty coffee production that is accessible, educational, and rooted in knowledge-sharing.
We’re proud to work with Silvio and are constantly inspired by his generosity, passion, and dedication to better coffee for everyone.
