Mwiria Washing Station is owned by the Central Ngandori Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS) in Embu county. Coffee is grown in the south-eastern foothills of Mt Kenya, with rich volcanic soils and a cool climate leading to the bright and juicy flavours characteristic of this region. With a focus on regenerative agriculture, Central Ngandori FCS nominates lead farmers who are trained in sustainable practices, passing on their knowledge and resources to local members. Pre harvest financing by the FCS allows farmers to invest in their crops, further contributing to their ongoing success. The result of this collaborative effort is evident in the outstanding quality of this lot. Ripe cherries are hand picked and delivered to Mwiria, with only the densest, highest quality beans being used. After dry fermenting for 20-23 hours, the coffee is washed, then soaked for 24 hours to increase the proteins and amino acids for a heightened acidity. Following this it dried slowly and rested to ensure lasting vibrancy. Deliciously sweet and bursting with a red currant acidity, this jammy filter is sure to brighten up your morning.
